March

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Please see message below concerning the safety and welfare of our students at Lafayette.  This information is attached to this email for your reference.  Additionally, see attachments below regarding our Lafayette Family Survey  http://bit.ly/2nQWOtp  and our Lafayette fundraiser that happens all day today at Bill's Place on Clement Street.

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priorities.  To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, we have asked all students and staff to participate in school-wide emergency preparedness drills on an ongoing basis from now until the end of the year.  These drills involve being prepared for a variety of emergencies including fires, earthquakes, lockouts and lockdowns.  Please be advised that the school days will continue as normal at the conclusion of the drills and students will be dismissed at the regular dismissal time on those days.

The goals of the training drill are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries.  As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our school’s Crisis Response Team.  If you happen to be on campus on days that these drills are conducted, you are encouraged to participate in these drills.

Please make sure that all contact information for your child is current at school, so that in the event of an actual emergency, we can reach you. This includes phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses.

Prior to these drills, please discuss with your child your family’s home emergency preparedness plan.  Several resources are available to help you prepare.  The American Red Cross and the City and County of San Francisco have outstanding materials.  You can obtain Red Cross materials in English or in Spanish from their website: http://www.redcross.org or by calling the San Francisco Chapter at 415-427-8000. Additional information on first aid, CPR and home preparedness is also available at sf72.org.

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call our school office at 415 750-8483

Thank you,

Heath Caceres and Jacob Hodgson

Principal Message

Dear Families,

Welcome to March!  I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the families that have contributed to our Lafayette Annual Give Campaign this year.  Because of your generous contributions we are on track to meet our financial goals.  This means that we will in all likelihood be able to continue all of our programs that are currently in place next school year. These programs are an important part of making Lafayette the best possible place to teach and learn.  If you have not had the opportunity to contribute to our AGC yet, I urge you to please consider making a donation.  In this way we can ensure that the expert personnel and the unique programs continue throughout your child's years at Lafayette.

This week is conference week.  The office staff and teachers have appreciated all your help picking up your students at the 12:50pm early dismissal all week long.  I am happy to say that each year this has improved with fewer and fewer children being picked up late.  This makes a giant difference for teachers that need to conduct their conferences right after school.  It also helps the office because we can get our work done to make our school run as smoothly as possible.  Gracias!

We are in the home stretch of production for Peter Pan, the Lafayette School Play.  Students and parent volunteers have been working double time to prepare for what is sure to be a series of wonderful performances on March 21, 22, 23.  There will be evening performances held on these days, so please mark your calendars since the dates are coming quickly.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Finally, Daylight Savings begins this Sunday, March 11, 2018.  REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS 1 HOUR AHEAD THIS SUNDAY!

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Sincerely,

Heath Caceres and Jake Hodgson
