November

Wednesday, November 15th

Dear Lafayette Families,

Due to the upcoming rainy weather, we will need to cancel our Lafayette Turkey Trot that was scheduled for tomorrow morning.  The forecast indicates a greater than 50% chance of rain.  We were caught out in the rain two years ago and although some kids had fun, it wasn't the best for all of our participants.  I know that many students were looking forward to this, and many classes were planning to participate.  In the future, we will block out additional days just in case of the rain.  This year it won't work out, however, since the Thanksgiving Holiday is only 2 days away.

We will be out of school all next week for Thanksgiving.  Lafayette will resume classes on November 27.  Please note that the entire week of November 27 through December 1 are early release days to allow for parent-teacher conferences. Children will be released at 12:50 instead of 1:50.  RDNC and the YMCA will begin early and run as normal, but after school enrichment programs will not be in session.  If you have not signed up for a conference time, please contact you teacher this week to arrange a meeting date and time during conference week.

This weekend the Lafayette PTA will host the first Dim Sum Saturday Community Event.  This event takes place this Saturday, November 18, beginning at 10 AM.   It will begin in the Sandi Berger Auditorium.  Hope to see you there.

Together with you in building, strengthening, and sustaining our wonderful Lafayette community of successful learners.  Wishing you all the best as you enjoy a restful and relaxing holiday week with friends and family.

Sincerely,

Heath Caceres and Jake Hodgson

Wednesday, November 8th

Dear Parents,

Tonight is Math Night at Lafayette School!  Students will be teaching parents and community members math games and activities that they are doing in class this year.  The yard will be open for parking at 5:30 pm.  Math night lasts from 6 -7 pm.  Hope to see you all here this evening.  All are welcome.

Next Thursday Lafayette students will participate in our 2nd annual Turkey Trot. Students will be running the same course that we have run in the past that begins at the Polo Fields.  The event starts at 9 am on Thursday.  Classes will be leaving Lafayette at about 8:20.  We would love any parent chaperones that would like to help walk children down to the fields or even participate in the event.  This event is optional for Lafayette classes.  Please check with your classroom teacher if your child's class is planning to participate.  We would love to see you out supporting our Lafayette students.

We have included a concerning picture of what is happening at our school on a regular basis recently.  Lafayette parents and family members are consistently parking in the white zone and double parking across the street when dropping off their children.  This is really dangerous!   There was an accident yesterday where a car hit a school bus when the car was making a u-turn.  On other days young students are running across the street as traffic is approaching.  In the picture attached you can see that these cars are also blocking traffic.  This is not only dangerous, it is illegal.  Please model best behaviors and use our Lafayette Stop Drop and Go program on Anza Street when dropping off your students.  Alternatively, park legally and use the crosswalk to escort your child to school.  We appreciate your attention to this matter.  We need everyone to be safe and responsible.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

Tomorrow there is no school in SFUSD in observance of Veterans Day.  See you back at school on Monday.  Have a great weekend.

Heath Caceres and Jake Hodgson
