Wednesday, September 27th

Dear Lafayette Families,

Our once a month paper Wednesday Envelope is sent home today.  This year our paper envelope will be sent out on the last Wednesday of the month and all families will receive it.  Please make sure to sign the paper envelope and return it by Friday.

Always included in these paper envelopes are  the Revolution Foods calendar for the following month, items that need to be signed and returned for the office, and other important handouts that we would like you to have.  In this month's paper Wednesday Envelope parents will receive their child's picture from Lifetouch.  We have included the picture retake form that is coming up in October.  For all students that are English Learners, the office has included notification letters to parents indicating English language progress for your child.

Thank you for all the continued support from Lafayette families and community as we start another fabulous school year.  We are looking forward to upcoming activities and events such as the launch of our annual Lafayette Food Drive, the Hardly Strictly parking fundraiser, the Annual LEAP Sandcastle Event, the Lafayette Autumn Carnival, and of course the Halloween parade and celebration at the end of the month. It will be a busy, but it promises to be a fun-filled month. We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Heath Caceres and Jake Hodgson

Wednesday, September 20th

Dear Lafayette Families,

We would like to thank all the students, families, and community members for coming out for the 2nd annual Fun Run last Sunday in Golden Gate Park.  This is not only a fundraiser for our school, but it was a wonderful community event.  What a great way to develop healthy lifestyles while supporting our Lafayette Parent Teacher Association.  I would like to appreciate Mr. Manfred, Ms. Chue, and Ms. Gonzales for representing the teachers at the run.

Please make sure to read the attached Wednesday Bulletin from the PTA this week.  Along with Spirit Fridays in September continuing this Friday, we also have our 2nd Grade playdate at Fulton Playground at 1pm on September 24.  If you are a second grade parent, we would love to see you out at Fulton Playground this Saturday.

This week I also want to emphasize allergy awareness at Lafayette School.  We have many students with food allergies. As classes begin to host classroom parties, birthday parties, and participate in school wide celebrations, it is important to send food and snacks that are allergen free so that all can enjoy.  If you must send food that contains peanuts or another allergen, please make sure it is clearly labeled.  We appreciate all your efforts to ensure that safely for all of our children.

Thank you Ms. Berger for organizing our first assembly this year. Today the Wildlife Associates brought their science and environmental education program to the Sandi Berger Auditorium.  We had the opportunity to see live animals from around the world and learn about animal habitats and ecosystems.  Today on your way home or at dinner ask your child about the different animals they saw today: a turkey vulture, a grey fox, a kinkajou, a falcon, a tamandua (lesser anteater) Also ask them about some of the key terms that were covered in the assembly: habitat conservation, seed dispersion, interdependence, adaptations, biodiversity.  This review is a great way to help children internalize the lessons from the day.  It is also a great way to build and sustain a home school connection.

Have a wonderful week ahead.  See you here on the yard.

Sincerely,

Heath Caceres and Jake Hodgson
